This group is essentially a learn-to-swim class that focuses on teaching skills related to competitive swimming for swimmers under the age of 10.We simply ask that potential swimmers be comfortable in the water, be able to touch the bottom of the pool, and be able to move from one side to the other unassisted (jumping off bottom, kicking, floating--whatever).
The Primary Objective is to teach swimmers the basics of the crawl stroke and the breast stroke. The Secondary Objective is to introduce competitive swimming elements, such as kicking and turns, in a safe and fun environment that fosters a love of water and a willingness to progress to competitive swimming.
We offer three, 30 minute sessions on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for $35 per month (first month is $50 to cover a USA Swimming Membership for insurance purposes).
Since this group is geared toward learning how to swim, participants in this group are not allowed to compete in competitions until they progress into our Ripples group.
Ripples:
This is our first competitive swimming group for swimmers ages 5-10.Swimmers in this group have either been promoted from the Recreation group or have been assigned to this group based upon their evaluation by the coaches.Swimmers in this group need to have had some formal swimming lesson experience that allows them to swim 15 to 25 yards of basic freestyle (crawl stroke) and 15 to 25 yards of basic backstroke.
The Primary Objective is to teach basic skills necessary for long-term success in the sport of swimming. These skills include, but are not limited to:
·Proper breathing and breathe control
·How to dive
·Turns
·Introducing the four basic swimming strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, Butterfly
·Cultivating a love for swimming that will translate into long term participation
The Secondary Objective is to introduce participants to the competitive swimming experience. This includes:
·Limited amounts of training
·Encouraging participation in Developmental Meets
This group has five, 45 minute practice sessions offered per week; nine monthly payments allow a swimmer to swim all 12 months. We highly encourage participants to attend two to four practice sessions a week, with more advanced (both in age and ability) attending four or five.
Age Group:
This large and diverse group is for swimmers ages 7 - 13 (younger with permission from the coaching staff) and is geared towards exposing swimmers to competitive swimming. This group deliberately has a wide range of ages and abilities in order to begin the progression of building the future of the team.Younger swimmers who have good skills and speed may be in the same lane as older swimmers in an effort to promote development--the younger swimmers push the older swimmers who then step up their efforts; similarly, the older, more experienced swimmers begin to learn how to become leaders to the younger and less experienced members.
Swimming is a very technical sport, and the Primary Objective is to continue to cultivate the skills necessary for long term success. These skills include:
·Starts, Turns, and Finishes
·Working towards swimming all four strokes at greater distances
·Continuing to foster the idea of swimming as a fun and rewarding lifetime sport
The Secondary Objective is not just swim meet participation, but giving swimmers the ability to be successful in competition."Successful" does not necessarily mean winning or qualifying for big, national level meets. It simply means beating their previous time in an event. The skills necessary to meet these objectives include:
·Laying the foundation for effective training
·Introducing basic racing strategies
·Building strength and endurance, especially in the legs
The price per month is $90; nine monthly payments allow a swimmer to swim for all 12 months. This group has 90 minute practices sessions on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday that include 60 minutes of swimming and 30 minutes of cross training, known in the swimming world as "dry land."Tuesday and Thursday practice sessions are 60 minutes long and do not include dry land training. We highly encourage our swimmers to attend three or more practice sessions per week, but even those who can only make 50% of practice sessions or are balancing swimming with other activities can still effectively meet the objectives of this group.
Regional Group:
This is our first invitation only group.Swimmers in this group must first and foremost demonstrate a high level of performance and commitment.
The Primary Objective is developing the physical and mental skills necessary to become a successful competitor during a swimmer’s high school and college years.
The Secondary Objective is to build upon the foundation laid in the Age Group program:
·Expanding a swimmer’s ability to train
·Consistently executing race strategies
·Building greater strength and endurance especially in the legs.
·Continue to promote swimming as a fun and rewarding lifetime sport.
As the transitional group to the Senior level, training and leadership will become the two most important aspects of this group. Not only do we expect these swimmers to achieve goals, but we expect these swimmers to become the future leaders of our team, both in and out of the pool.
The price per month is $120; nine monthly payments allow a swimmer to swim for all 12 months. The Regional swimmers practice with the Age Group on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for 60 minutes of swimming and 30 minutes of “dry land” cross training. On Tuesday and Thursday, this group practices with the Senior group for 2 hours of swimming and 30 minutes of “dry land.”Additionally, swimmers are invited to practice with the Seniors on Saturday morning for 2 hours of swimming and 30 minutes of “dry land.”We highly encourage 66% or greater attendance during any given month in order to prevent injury and ensure optimal success; understand that in order to achieve more ambitious goals, 80% or greater attendance will be necessary.Meet participation is also essential to gauge progress and to continue development.
