Happy New Year and welcome to the first Coaches Note of 2011!
The next few months are quite busy, so please make sure that you are reading the weekly emails and checking the calendars often. Here we go:
CHAMPS, CHAMPS, CHAMPS!
If you are going to go to any meet this year, go to Junior Champs, Feb. 11-13 in Clarkston, WA. We are the two-time defending champions, and would love make it a three-peat. Entries are due Tuesday, February 1. It is one of the most exciting developmental meets of the year! Come see what swimming for a team is all about!
Inland Empire (Senior) Champs.
This meet requires qualifying times. Over the last 3 years, we have moved up 1 spot per year from 5th to 3rd. To win, we will need everyone who qualifies to participate, swim relays, and try to move up. Senior Champs is on February 25-27th in our backyard, Coeur D’Alene! Please make plans to go if you qualify.
ALL 15 & Over SWIMMERS QUALIFY AND ATTEND THIS MEET!
Welcome Coach Serena Wang
The Waves welcome Serena Wang to our coaching staff. The 4 year All-American / Academic All- American from Whitworth University, and former head coach of Crane Creek Country Club, joins us as the Site manager for the Cheney pool. For the next couple of months Kevin & Serena will join Tom out at EWU while she learns the ropes, then Serena will take over management of the Cheney site. We are excited to have her on staff and glad to have her share her knowledge and enthusiasm with the kids!
Record Year for the Waves.
2010 was full of some incredible accomplishments for the Waves:
1. We broke the 200 swimmer mark for athletes on the Waves.
2. The Waves set new records in 119 events (Not including multiple times a record was broken)
3. The Waves joined forces with the families in Cheney and added a new facility (EWU).
4. We sent a record number of swimmers to Champs, Zones, AGS, Sectionals, and Junior Nationals!
Back to normal
We are back to our normal schedule. Be on the lookout for our Waves hosted meets coming up in March and April! It will be a lot of fun, and a great chance to get your volunteer time in while watching your kids swim at our home pool!
