The calm before the storm, that’s what
last week seemed to be. This week… preparations
are in high swing, and the Shamrock meet is just days away! This is our team's first
major invitational of 2010, and with over 290 swimmers and 10 teams
coming, it’s looking to be one of the best ones ever. Swim fast SWAT, and have
fun at the Shamrock Shake-up. He’s a preview of
what’s coming at you in the next few weeks.
Annual Meeting
Our
Spokane Waves Annual Meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, March
23rd at 6:30 pm in the Robinson Teaching Auditorium at
Weyerhaeuser Hall (on Whitworth’s
campus).
It is
essential that at least one parent from every family attend this
meeting.
The Annual Meeting is

election of Board of Directions position, changes to our By-Laws,
approvals of Policies & Procedures, and any other business that
the full memberships needs to deal with. For more

Sr. Sectionals:
First and foremost, last year we
had 4 girls and 1 guy swim at Sr. Sectionals. This year, we’re sending 5
girls and 4 guys!
It’s going to be a lot of fun for SWAT, having the
opportunity to swim relays and need more than 1 mini-van to get
everyone to the meet. Good luck, and check the
news feed for live results and pictures.
Age-Group Sectionals:
Last year, 9 swimmers went over
to the 1990 Goodwill Games pool and competed at one of the fastest
age group competitions in the nation. This year, Swat is sending 12
swimmers and 2 relay teams. Not only that, our average
number of qualifying times per swimmer has increased from
3.5 to 4.5. Great work swimmers on striving for
your goals! Make us proud at AGS!
Swim-a-thon
What’s happening
FRIDAY MAY 7?
Our annual Swim-a-thon! This is our only fundraiser for the
year, and we need all families to participate in order to ensure
the long-term financial health of the team. The coaches are
asking all swimmers to participate! More information is
coming soon. For
questions, contact Toni Endebrock.
Triple Pentathlon: April 16-18—Whitworth
University Aquatic Center
Mark your
calendars! Entries and
Job Sign Up will be posted soon. We need tons of parent support
and welcome all swimmers who want to participate!
Training Tip of the Week:
“Long practices, with high training volumes will make
all swimmers VERY good at what they are doing. Repetition builds
habit. Habit stands up beautifully under the pressure of
competition…when in fact, nothing else does….as the
pain of competition effort removes all traces of thought from
the brain…..it becomes habit that the swimmer relies upon to
get him home to the finish.
“Unfortunately, if they are practicing poor technique, that
will be learned and habituated, just as well as good technique. And
poor technique makes you biomechanically inefficient at the time of
greatest stress. Hence you struggle more, go slower and your stroke
collapses at the end of races.
“This makes swimming a technique limited sport. Your child
will be severely limited by the degree with which they can perform
the strokes with good habits, instead of poor habits.
“Lots of training with poor habits will make a very poor
swimmer. A little training with good habits, will result in a good
swimmer and one that is “unlimited” in their
future.
“Which one do you want for your
child?
