Short Course
Champs is here! Be thinking about our
38 athletes as they head over to Ellensburg for racing this
weekend. We have some pretty high
expectations, and are confident that our swimmers are ready to
perform to the best of their ability.
Remember, all practices on Friday and Saturday are cancelled. Enjoy your weekend, we’ll be sure to
enjoy ours! Here’s what else is
happening:
Annual
Meeting
Our Spokane Waves Annual Meeting has been
scheduled for Tuesday, March 23rd at 6:30 pm in the
Robinson Teaching Auditorium at Weyerhaeuser Hall (on
Whitworth’s campus).
It is essential that at least one parent from
every family attend this meeting.
The Annual Meeting is when the general
membership (that’s you!) votes on the election of Board of
Directions position, changes to our By-Laws, approvals of Policies
& Procedures, and any other business that the full memberships
needs to deal with. For more
information,
please click here.
Swim-a-thon
Be sure to mark
this date on the calendar for our annual Swim-a-thon! This is
our only fundraiser for the year, and we need all families to
participate in order to ensure the long-term financial health of
the team. The coaches highly encourage all swimmers to
participate! More information is coming
soon.

Still Needed: Waves Store
We are still
looking for a volunteer to cover the following shifts in the Waves
Store at the pool: Monday 5:30-6:30 & 7:30-8:30;
Wednesday 7:00-8:30; Friday 7:00-8:30. It is an
easy way to get your volunteer hours in! If you are

Shamrock
Shake-up: March 12-14 and Triple Pentathlon: April
16-18—Whitworth Aquatic Center
Our annual hosted
invitational swim meets are fast approaching. Remember, these
meets are HUGE compared to our developmental meets, so we need all
parents to help make them happen. Job Sign Up on the website
is coming soon!
Training Tip
of the Week
We want you to be relaxed heading into this
weekend; once it’s time to swim, we want our swimmers focused
and ready to achieve. How the heck does
that happen? You have to balance what
you can and can’t control. The
most important thing you can’t control is your emotions; you
can, absolutely control how you react to those emotions. You are going to be scared, nervous, and
excited—the question is are you so excited that you freak
out, or so scared that you freeze up.
The best strategy to balance your excitement with your fear is
focus on your race plans. Don’t
constantly obsess about your plans, because then you are fueling
your anxiety. Instead, choose a few
minutes here and there to take a deep breath, and think about your
strategy for your race: what are your splits, when do you make your
move, what techniques do you need to focus on as you swim? Practicing this now will allow you to calm
yourself when your race arrives, allowing you to accept your
emotional state, and achieve great things regardless of your
anxiety or fear.
That’s
it—have a great week and keep up the hard work!
