Personal Information

Natalie is originally from South Lake Tahoe, California. Natalie attended Whitworth University where she received a B.A. in Sociology and Criminal Justice and minors in Psychology and Peace Studies.


Natalie has coached all levels of swimmers but primarily works with the Age Group program on the Waves. Natalie believes that every swimmer is important to the over-all function of the team. Her goals in practice are for the kids to be challenged, have fun and be proud of the accomplishments every day.

  • Four-time Northwest Conference Swimmer of the Meet

Michael Woodward

Head Assistant Coach/Senior Coach



Michael Woodward is the Head Assistant Coach and the Head Senior Coach. He has been coaching for the Waves since 2011. Michael graduated from Whitworth University in 2011 where he received his B.A. in Graphic Design. While at Whitworth he competed on the Men's Varsity Swimming Team and helped lead the Pirate Men to continuous victory by being a repeat Conference Champion in multiple individual events and relays, compete on the national stage as an Honorary All-American Athlete at the NCAA DIII Swimming and Diving National Championships, and set multiple individual and relay Whitworth school records. He brings his knowledge and passion for the sport to coaching, and loves the opportunity he has been given to be a part of the Waves.

  • Oregon Swimming Top 5 in 2006 and 2007
  • 2007 Oregon Short Course Championship High Point Recipient

  • 4 Year Varsity Letter Holder for Whitworth University Swimming
  • School Record Holder in 100 and 200 Free
  • Member of School Record Holding Relay Teams in 200 & 400 Medley, and 400 & 800 Free
  • 2010, 2011 NCAA Div. III Honorary All-American

Kathryn Teske

Cheney Coach Site Manager


Kathryn is a Spokane native who began swimming with Spokane Area Swimming at the age of 7.  She then swam for Spokane Waves and represented Inland Empire Swimming on two Zone teams before moving to Missoula, Montana, for high school.  In Missoula she swam for Missoula Aquatic Club and Hellgate High School.  As team captain she led the Hellgate High School girls team to a 3rd place finish at state in 1999.  She earned a scholarship to swim at Rutgers University where she earned a B.A. in History and Journalism and an M.Ed..  She returned to Spokane and teaches AP U.S. history and newspaper journalism at Central Valley High School.  Kathryn and her husband have two children who she hopes will love swimming as much as she does – though they are a little young to join the team at this point!  She looks forward to returning to coaching and sharing her love of the sport with a new generation of swimmers.

  • Montana high school state champion (1997, 1998, 1999) and high school state record holder, 200 free and 500 free
  • Montana Swimming state records in almost all freestyle events

  • varsity letter earner for Rutgers University women’s swim team which finished in the top 3 at Big East Conference each year, team captain senior year
  • member of school record setting 800 freestyle relay at Rutgers

Jason Lemley

Ripples/Bronze Coach



Jason Lemley is 20 years old originally from Seattle Washington and is currently a junior at Whitworth University.  Studying Marketing with a minor in Kinesiology he hopes to go eventually go into sports marketing.  Starting swimming when he was six years old at a Olympic View swim club where he then later joined a local club team called Whitewater Aquatics.  In High School he swam for the Mount Rainer High School and made State all 4 years.  Specializing in back stroke and sprint freestyle he was on some key relays helping the rams to a winning season. Then later excelling and swimming for Whitworth University his freshman and sophomore year. 

Circular Activities

  • Worked at Malibu Young Life camp on Summer staff (summer of 2011, 2012) as a wakeboard ski/instructor and boat driver.
  • Leads Wyldlife at Salk Middle School

Coaching/Work Experience

  • Coached for Olympic View Swim Club summer of 2010
  • Taught private swim lessons summer of 2009- 2013

  • Top 8 finisher in the 50 free, 100 back and 200 back

Gabby Villareal

Cheney Ripples/Bronze Coach


Gabriela (Gabby) is originally from Prosser, Washington. She is currently attending Eastern Washington University and pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and Registered Nurse certification. During the school year, she works as a tutor and hosts study help groups for Math 103/104.
Swimming/Coaching Experience:


  • She began competitive swimming with the Prosser Piranhas summer swim team when she was 6, continued on to join Tri Cities Channel Cats year round swim team, and swam for Prosser High School her freshman-senior years.
  • During high school, Gabby spent the summers as a lifeguard and swim instructor.
  • She spent this last summer working as one of the managers at the Prosser Aquatic Center and overseeing the swim lessons program there.
  • She is Lifeguard/CPR/First Aid certified.
