All of our coaches are members of the USA Swimming and the American Swim Coaches Association.  Our coaching staff prides itself on professionalism, education, and experience.

Our coaching staff feels that communication is essential; therefore, if you have any questions, related to workouts, meets, events, goal setting, and other swimming related needs, please contact one of the coaches, preferably your child’s coach.

Earl "Lucky" Foreman

Head Coach

Earl “Lucky” Foreman brings over twenty years of coaching excellence to the Spokane Waves. He is an American Swim Coaches Association Level 5 coach and he had three swimmers qualify for the 2008 Olympic Trials.  Foreman has coached one Olympian, four Senior National Champions, six Olympic Trial finalists, and over 100 top 16 age group finalists.

Other coaching accomplishments include being a United States Junior Team coach in Montreal, Canada in 1991 and on the coaching staff on the 1989 Olympic Sports Festival Team.  He has had over 20 scholastic All Americans along with more than 20 Junior National finalists.  Multiple top three team place finishes at Senior Sectionals along with numerous first place finishes at LSC team championships.  

Most recently, he was the head coach of the Albany Starfish a Top 100 team and Silver Medal club.  Previously he assisted the University of Vermont women’s team, head coach for the Greater Pensacola Aquatic Club in Florida, the Saddleback Valley Aquatics in El Toro, Calif. and the Arlington Irving Swim Team in Irving, Texas.

Coach Foreman and his wife of twenty five years Christine, have three children ; Brittney, second year grad student at NOVA University in Florida,  Nicholas, a Junior at Baylor University,  and Emily, a freshman at Baylor University.

Personal Information

Natalie is 25 years old and originally from South Lake Tahoe, California. Natalie attended Whitworth University where she received a B.A. in Sociology and Criminal Justice and minors in Psychology and Peace Studies.

Michael R Woodward

EWU Cheney Site Manager

Michael Woodward is the site manager for the Cheney EWU location and has been coaching for the Waves since 2011. Michael graduated from Whitworth University in 2011 where he received his B.A. in Graphic Design. While at Whitworth he competed on the Men's Varsity Swimming Team and helped lead the Pirate Men to continuous victory by being a repeat Conference Champion in multiple individual events and relays, compete on the national stage as an Honorary All-American Athlete at the NCAA DIII Swimming and Diving National Championships, and set multiple individual and relay Whitworth school records. He brings his knowledge and passion for the sport to coaching, and loves the opportunity he has been given to be a part of the Waves.

Hailee C Meyers

Personal Information:

Age 21. Currently attending Whitworth University as a Senior, pursuring Political Science and English degrees, hoping to begin a career in the publishing industry after graduation in 2015. She is currently in her four year coaching for the Waves and hopes to continue through her last years at Whitworth.

Swim Information/Related Work Experience:

Swam for the Waves for eight years, starting at age 10.

Started working for Whitworth University as a lifeguard/water safety instructor at 17.

As of now, has worked five summers for Whitworth Aquatics, teaching all ages and skill levels.

Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/Water Safety Instruction Certified.

Recently earned her Lifeguard Instruction Certification so she can teach others to be lifeguards.

Is currently employed with Whitworth University as the Head Lifeguard and is also interning for Congresswoman Cathy McMorris-Rodgers during the fall of 2013.

Meghan M Pickett

Meghan Pickett is graduate from Richland High School in the Tri-Cities. She competed on the IES swim club Tri City Channel Cats for 9 years as well as the high school team where all 4 years she was a varsity swimmer and captain.  She is a freshman with junior standing at Eastern Washington University where she is getting a Secondary English major and a Secondary Math minor and is entering the Education program next fall. Meghan loves kids, swimming, music and reading. She hopes to be able to be as of much help as possible to the swimmers, coaches, and team for as long as she is assisting.

Andrew John Sumnicht

Assistant Coach Whitworth

Andrew Sumnicht is a Senior at Whitworth University where he plans to complete his BS in Biology and minor in Spanish by the Spring of 2014. He is currently applying to medical schools and his future career plans include becoming a physician. He comes from Green Bay, Wisconsin and has swam on competitive club and high school teams since he was nine years old. Throughout his swimming career he has attended multiple swim camps including UW-Madison, UW-Green Bay, Kenyon College, and Nike swim camps where he has learned much about stroke technique and race strategies. He has taught private swim lessons since he was in high school and continues to teach swim lessons for the Whitworth Varsity Swim Team fundraiser. This year will be his fourth consecutive year on the Varsity swim team at Whitworth where he has been a top scorer at the NWC championship meet for the past three years. He began coaching for the Waves in the summer of 2013 and plans to continue for as long as he remains in Spokane

Lauren Nelson

Lauren is 20 years old and is currently a junior at Whitworth, majoring in elementary education with a double minor in reading and athletic coaching. She swims IM and breaststroke on the Whitworth varsity team. She lived in Moscow, Idaho for eight years prior to moving to Eugene, Oregon in 2009. Lauren learned how to swim when she was six and has swam competitively since then. When she lived in Moscow, she swam for Gold Medal Swim Club and after moving to Eugene, she began training with Team Eugene Aquatics. She coached for two summers at the Eugene Country Club and this is her first year coaching for the Waves.

Karen K Kiehl

Karen is 19 years old. She graduated from Mead High School and is currently attending Gonzaga University as a sophomore after transferring from Whitworth University. She plans to get a degree in Sports Management and then continue to get her masters for Sports Administration. She hoopes to get a career working for the front office staff for a professional hockey team and hopefully do some part-time coaching in swimming.

 

Swimming Background/ Related Work Experience:

  • Qualified for Age Group Sectionals and Western Zones.
